A full-bodied, intensely malty flavour experience

Description

Traditionally brewed during the winter, Rothaus Märzen is a seasonal favourite enjoyed all year round by super-premium German beer lovers.

Regional barley malt, soft brewing water, and the best aromatic hops from the Tettnang and Hallertau regions characterise the full-bodied taste of Rothaus Märzen. The high original gravity and mild hops create a deliciously intense malty taste.

Tasting Notes

“The finish is marked by notes of fresh bread or biscuits with pleasant ashes of hoppy bitterness – and a little herbal touch as well.”- Oliver Wesseloh (World champion beer sommelier)

Appearance: Mid-range white head; clear, richly glowing gold colour.

Aroma: Biscuity, freshly baked bread sprinkled with chives and parsley – and there’s a lime in there as well.

Flavour: The beer starts unobtrusively; it almost hides in the mouth, but the creamy carbonation exposes it after all. It isn’t until the aftertaste that the biscuity notes and fresh crusty bread emerge again, bringing with them a shock of pleasant, hoppy bitterness and a few herbal notes at the very end. The bitterness comes through better with every sip, without ever becoming overwhelming.

Special aspect: The high gravity and somewhat mild hopping ensure the pronounced malty notes. Spring-fed brewing water and aromatic hops from the areas of Tettnang and Hallertau make for a perfect flavour experience.

This impeccible Rothaus beer is known as Rothaus Märzen in 500ml (50cl) bottles and Rothaus Eiszäpfle in the smaller 330ml (33cl) bottles.

Märzen or Märzenbier was traditionally brewed in the depths of winter in order to utilise naturally forming ice to cool the beer.

The latest month brewers could produce a Märzen beer would be March (März).
